On New Year’s Day, Oval Space continues a tradition of hosting a heavy-hitting techno lineup, with legendary Detroit pioneer Robert Hood, Berghain mainstay Ryan Elliott, and Rekids boss Radio Slave.
M-Plant founder, Underground Resistance alumni, Detroit techno pioneer: Robert Hood is a true legend of the 4/4 form, as active and relevant now as 25 years ago. The man behind seminal techno labels Hardwax and M-Plant, Robert Hood also founded Underground Resistance with contemporaries Mike Banks and Jeff Mills. Along with Mills, Hood left UR in 1992, switching the Motor City to New York City, and began to develop a production style that combined Detroit rawness with a minimal Berlin aesthetic. Today, Hood remains a key figure on the contemporary techno scene, whose all-conquering moniker Floorplan has been responsible for some of the past few years’ biggest dancefloor hits.
He’s joined by Ostgut Ton’s big-room specialist Ryan Elliott. A regular on both floors of Berlin’s notorious power station-turned club, Elliott is a versatile, experienced DJing presence, capable of doling out propulsive techno and sexy, stripped-back house music alike. Oval Space favourite Radio Slave rounds out the lineup. The Rekids boss is rightly regarded as one of the UK’s finest selectors, whose enviable record collection spans everything from oddball house to classic Detroit sounds, and everything in between. On 1st January, Edwards warms the floor for a truly special night of techno in all styles, rhythms and textures.
