Silo presents Sigha

  • It's our 4th b'day and we are proud to have SIGHA help us celebrate! In a time when many producers have aimed to merely just emulate a certain style or sound for fame and success, it becomes quite rare to find that one diamond in the rough who forges their own sonic pathway and creates truly original works that never adhere to conformity. And a prime example of one of those diamonds can be found in the productions of the highly talented UK techno artist James Shaw – better known to most by his alias of 'Sigha'. Sigha has quickly become a name that has become completely synonymous with highly conceptual, intelligently programmed, forward thinking techno and electronic music. His style is incredibly experimental, yet precise and meticulous, and very cerebral. Throughout many of his releases you can hear influences of dub, atmospheric, dark and broken-beat techno alike. Shaw's dedication to precision in sound design results in many of his tracks maintaining a very futuristic, and atmospheric, collection of soundscapes and textures – and is often replete with hypnotically driven harmonies and melodies. Shaw's keen interest in working with extremely immersive sound design and sonic experimentation combined with his uniquely British take on techno have made way for him to carve out his own distinct path in an already densely populated music scene. In December of 2013 Shaw released his debut album 'Living with Ghosts' on Hotflush Recordings to much critical acclaim, and resulted in him taking on a slew of hugely successful tour dates afterwards. The following year, Shaw spent 12 months in Berlin working on expanding his already impressive hardware studio setup and beginning on the long and arduous task of modular synthesis experimentation – which he has been continuing to this very day. Sigha has been steadfast in his approach to producing and releasing tracks and his dedication certainly shines through in comparison to many other artists in the techno community who vie for minimal and sparse releases. To his name, He has releases on labels such as Blueprint Recordings, Hotflush Recordings, Immerse Records, Avian, Token Records, and his own imprint 'Our Circula Sound'. In Addition to this, he has also been commissioned to provide remixes for a wide range of labels including Steadfast, Echocord, Mikrowave, Sudden Drop, Metalheadz and Chris Liebing's well known CLR record label, amongst others. His releases on his Our Circula Sound imprint and James Ruskin's Blueprint label in particular have continually been receiving huge support from many important names all across the global techno scene. He has enjoyed widespread success all over the globe and has an extremely busy touring schedule. The growing list of countries he's performed at includes: Australia, England, France, Poland, Italy, Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, and Portugal. And, in addition to the European techno club staples like the Tresor and Berghain nightclubs in Berlin, Sigha has played sets at the likes of: Warehouse Elemententstraat, Dude Club, Circus, Fabric, Culture Box, Nordstern, Bunker, The Mercat Basement and Bunker – amongst many, many others. Sigha has certainly made his concrete mark among many legends in scene, appearing in numerous events along techno artists such as: Stanislav Tolkachev, Henning Baer, Truss, Rodhad, Shifted, Marcelus, Luke Slater, Paula Temple, Surgeon, Karenn, Sunil Sharpe, Samuel Kerridge and Blawan. His latest release has just come out just last month on the Belgian-based record label 'Token Records' - an EP entitled “Christ Figures/New Puritan”. The EP, available on 12” vinyl, is two stunning tracks that expertly mix minimalist atmospheric techno alongside drastically confronting dystopian soundscapes, and stark & hypnotic melodies. Any release by James Shaw is going to be one glued into record boxes of top techno DJ's for years to come, and anyone lucky to witness a DJ set by him can be assured of expertly chosen track curation and flawless technical skill. Sigha is a name that brings to mind an artist residing within the higher echelons of electronic music – and always striving to deliver more.
