Coming off the inaugural Sydney Weekender, Red Bull Music Academy is presenting the Australian live tour of one of the most influential rap groups ever, De La Soul.
Formed in Long Island, NYC in 1987, the trio of Posdnuos, Dave and Maseo became leaders of the alternative hip-hop movement: the flip side to the gangster rap sound, rising from the West Coast in the late 1980s. Their early albums were instant classics, with 3 Feet High And Rising and its follow-up De La Soul Is Dead earning the group critical praise and commercial success with their irreverent lyrics, social commentary and liberal sampling from funk, soul, pop, reggae and psychedelia. Now, the legends have returned for their ninth studio album and first in 12 years, and the Anonymous Nobody... - a 17-track return to form featuring collaborations with Snoop Dogg, Little Dragon, Damon Albarn and more.
