  • Sampler Sèries and the OBC (Barcelona Symphony Orchestra) close the Sónar Festival with the national première of Death Speaks, by the American composer David Lang, an eminent figure in post minimalism. Considered one of the best albums of 2013 by NPR, Death Speaks is a cycle of five songs that possess a strange beauty and which cross the boundary between pop and contemporary music. Lang gives a voice to death - personified by the lead singer - through a selection of texts from various lieder by Franz Schubert. He is accompanied by an indie-concept group, intended by Lang to provide a contemporary context for the narration of stories sung with emotional intimacy, just as the classic lied was during Schubert’s time. Originally premièred by musicians such as Bryce Dessner (The National), Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy), Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond) and Nico Muhly (renowned composer and member of Bedroom Community), Death Speaks is being premièred in Spain, performed by stargaze.
