Thunder's Summer Party, on Friday 16th June at The Colombian, is an all-night takeover by the Pender Street Steppers.
Jack Jutson and Liam Butler, who make up the Steppers, are the men behind Mood Hut, one of the most influential labels of recent years, both musically and aesthetically, having been pivotal to both the development and popularisation of the new house sounds flowing out of Vancouver.
Their records have provided many of the highlights of recent summers, from ‘Bubble World’ and Jack J’s huge ‘Something (On My Mind)’ a couple years back, to Jack’s wonderful Future Times hit ‘Thirstin’’ in 2015, and then last year, the party disco edits of Gladys Knight and Fever, and the massive ‘Always On’, as part of Vancouver super group, Music People.
They have forged a fantastic reputation as DJs too, underpinned by a combination eclecticism, imagination, and impeccable taste. They are not simply selectors either, they are brilliant DJs with the technical ability to piece together a patchwork of different sounds and turn that into a party.
Having warmed up for the guys at FARR Festival, Corsica Studios and most memorably, on a boat in the Adriatic last summer, we are excited to give them the scope go wherever they want to musically at Thunder, so they will be running the show, all night long.
