Deep As Fu*k Easter Teknival ’09

  • Throw all your eggs in one basket this Easter Sunday and follow DEEP AS FU*K and THE LIKES OF YOU down the rabbit hole for a huge extravaganza across four rooms of THE CROSS with a lineup overflowing with international ‘big guns’. Systematic head honcho MARC ROMBOY shares top billing alongside minimal pioneer SEBASTIAN MULLAERT from MINILOGUE (COCOON RECORDS). They will be flanked by a further pair of internationals, emerging Berlin producer DANIEL DREIER (HIGH GRADE) and the versatile German beatmaster, PETER JUERGENS aka PETER GUN. Throw in a who’s who of local talent across techno, house, hip hop and disco and you have your Easter sorted... and then some! MARC ROMBOY (SYSTEMATIC) Founder of the hugely influential SYSTEMATIC label, MARC ROMBOY has remained at the forefront of the dance scene over the past decade, building up internationally respected electronic music labels and projects like Alphabet City, Terminal M, Le Petit Prince and PSI-49-Net. A rare example of someone who is embraced in both ‘underground’ and more ‘mainstream’ circles, Romboy seemingly never tires of pushing the limits of electronic sounds. Originally rising to prominence in the late 90s with releases on labels like OVUM RECORDINGS and 20:20 VISION, Romboy has consistently reinvented himself over the past decade, pushing deep and minimal productions to go with tougher electro house and techno cuts, and collaborating with revered producers such as BOOKA SHADE, JOHN DAHLBACK, STEPHEN BODZIN, GUI BORATTO and STEFAN GOLDMANN. His Systematic label has collaborated with high profile artists like PHONIQUE, ROBERT OWENS and MARTIN LANDSKY and signed mixes from producers like MARCO PASSARANI, RADIO SLAVE, DJ FEX, TOMMIE SUNSHINE and ROBERT BABICZ. Romboy’s latest longplayer, CONTRAST, was released towards the end of last year to critical and popular acclaim. It featured collaborations with BLAKE BAXTER and CHELONIS R. JONES, and attracted remixes from renowned producers like D’JULZ, KONRAD BLACK and ROBERT HOOD. *********************************************** SEBASTIEN MULLAERT / MINILOGUE (COCOON, SWEDEN) Swedish duo MINILOGUE, comprised of SEBASTIAN MULLAERT and MARCUS HENRIKSSON, are undoubtedly one of the most respected production acts in the underground scene today. Originally beginning in the trance scene with their SON KITE and TRIMATIC projects, through which they became very successful and played live sets all over the world, the pair left behind the confines of genre when they created Minilogue. Having released on labels like TRAUM, CROSSTOWN REBELS and WAGON REPAIR, they rose to new heights with the release of ANIMALS on SVEN VATH’s canonical COCOON label in 2008, a double CD opus that pushed the boundaries of dance music album releases, covering a broad mix of sounds ranging from peaktime techno to beatless deep ambient. In fact, Minilogue have also recently released ANIMALS – THE MOVIE, an 80-minute work split into 15 chapters soundtracked by tunes from the album. Check out a few clips from the movie below, which features a narcoleptic blend of trippy animals including fantastical donkey/elephant hybrids, coelacanth tapirs and ‘penguin pig rhinos’! ["hey, it's a half-man, half-bear, half-pig!"] http://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=10188 This supplement to their album only affirms what people ‘in the know’ have been saying for a long time: Minilogue are a unique talent, and certainly not your typical dance outfit. One only has to look at those who have remixed Minilogue to appreciate their standing in the highest echelon of the electronic sphere – the likes of THE MOLE, DUBFIRE and RADIOSLAVE are among those who have remixed the pair over the past year, while LUCIANO’S epic rework of ‘Animals’ is currently dominating Beatport charts. *********************************************** DANIEL DREIER (HIGH GRADE) Berlin resident Daniel Dreier has established himself as one of the more promising producers to emerge from the region in recent times, regularly playing at some of the region’s major clubs, including PANORAMABAR, TRESOR and WATERGATE. Often collaborating with TOM CLARK on the HIGH GRADE label – check out cuts like ‘Cookies’ – and PHAGE, Dreier has also worked with MY MY’s LEE JONES, while also establishing himself as a respected solo producer with releases like last year’s MANAJAR EP. Having played at events like LOVE PARADE, Dreier is renowned for a sound merging funky deep house and minimal techno that draws on influences from his early forays in hip hop. ************************************************* PETER JUERGENS (GSR/ELECTRIBE, GERMANY) PETER GUN (IBOGA, GERMANY) Described as the “German beatmaster” by DJ MAGAZINE, PETER JUERGEN AKA PETER GUN has been a dominant figure in the dance world for the past decade, releasing under a swag of different guises across disparate styles. His remixography features reworkings of THE KLF, TOCADISCO and OLIVER KLEIN, while working together with OLIVER MOLDAN as PRAWLER he released cuts that were released on the BEDROCK and RENAISSANCE labels. Renowned for the albums PRESSURE POINT and THICKER THAN BLOOD, Peter Juergen also released five successful chillout-LPs under his pseudonym Ten Madison (Millennium Rec.) Besides his various pseudonyms and co-operations, PETER JUERGENS also releases under his real name on ELECTRIBE and Room Records. His individual interpretation of progressive electro house isn´t only well received in our country - international DJs like Pete Tong, John Digweed, Timo Maas, Sander Kleineberg, Deep Dish or Seb Fontaine all support the talented producer. Whether playing frisky or experimental, driving or progressive, groovy or funky, Juergen is a top-drawe producer and DJ, who has performed at internationally recognized events like FUSION FESTIVAL, AKASHA and EARTHCORE. A man of many styles, there was only one possible way to appease Peter's Aussie fans: give him 2 SETS! Resultantly Peter Juergen and Peter Gun will be playing separate sets (we're going all 'Tyler Durden'/Fight Club on you!) in both techno and progressive/psy-trance styles.
