The history between Rainbow Serpent & Stable Music dates back to the late nineties and a little project called War of The Worlds, when a sports complex in Altona was transformed into an electronic music wonderland featuring some of the biggest names in the music industry to date.
Since this golden era of warehouse parties, the two have remained close friends and now come together for this exclusive Rainbow Serpent side show featuring 3 of the worlds best live performers.
Mathew Jonson Live
Having stepped out on labels like Itiswhatitis, Perlon and his own Wagon Repair, NZ-born Canadian prodigy Mathew Jonson has stomped loudly yet elegantly through the world of techno. A piano and percussion maestro from a young age, he combines musicality with proper, hands-on, analogue outboard action. Proof to this are especially Jonson’s live sets together with his Cobblestone Jazz boys as well as his leftfield A&R decisions for his own Wagon Repair label.
He's developed one of the most distinctive voices in electronic dance music: when you hear one of Jonson's tracks, you almost immediately know it's his. And yet there's no mistaking any given track for another.
His music offers a rare fusion of populist intensities and nuanced musicality. With a keen understanding for the needs of the dancefloor and the universal laws of house and techno, he's thrown out the rule book time and time again, sneaking tricks learned from electro and even drum'n'bass into minimal clubs, and loading up his B-sides with tracks that do what they damned well please. (No kick drum? No problem.
Extrawelt live
Arne Schaffhausen and Wayan Raabe have been engaged in electronic music since the beginning of the '90s, and they still continue succeeding in maxing out this music‘s latitude, shaping their very own and unique style that can hardly be assigned to one of the established subcategories of modern electronic dance music.
Initially, the two started touring worldwide as DJs, and later on established the projects 'Midimiliz', 'Spirallianz', 'The Delta' and 'Downhill', which all have gained remarkable success in the scene.
Their breakthrough as Extrawelt came in 2005. James Holden released the first Extrawelt single on his label Border Community, kicking off a matchless wave of success that lasts until today.
The readers of the two most renowned magazines for electronic music in Germany, 'Groove' and 'Raveline' voted their album "Schöne Neue Extrawelt" Best Album 2008; besides that, they also have been voted Best Live Act 2008 in 'Groove' magazine.
Their second album “In Aufruhr” came out in 2011 on Cocoon Recordings and was equally high acclaimed as their debut. Youtube clips of their tracks exceed the million clicks easily, their Facebook page likes are in the hundred thousands. Reader’s poll of the „Faze“, Germany’s magazine with the highest circulation voted them again on the pole position in the category Best Live Act in 2014.
Countless records and remixes sold as well as equally countless live gigs in the best clubs and festivals worldwide from New York via Berlin to Tokyo, Rio and Moscow speak a clear language: Extrawelt are reaching their audience despite – or probably just because of – their obstinacy.
