Not many producers can accurately be described as tastemakers and fewer still don’t get the proper recognition they deserve. Boxcutter is one of them, a shining light and a uniquely creative force in the electronic music landscape, an inspiration and hero to artists of both the bedroom and mainstage variety.
The Northern-Irish producer has been releasing music for over 15 years, including on the world-class Hotflush and Planet Mu labels, as well as his own highly selective and respected Kinnego Records - his musical twists and turns have been well-documented and keenly followed.
Through the formative years of what is now known as dubstep, Boxcutter sat firmly on the leftfield of the pack, creating ethereal, cosmic sounds that have aged altogether better than most contemporaries. From his enormously well received 2005 “Oneric” LP, the project evolved to incorporate more influences, including the frenetic rhythms of Chicago's footwork scene as well as more relaxed synth-funk rhythms, coming closer to the work of producers like Dâm-Funk.
This show encompasses the best of old as well as brand new compositions, realised with live drums to bring the full force and complexity of the Boxcutter sound to life.
