Grammy Award nominated DJ/Producer Todd Terry has been engulfed in dance music since he first started listening to European dance music records while growing up in Brooklyn. Already devoted to turntables, he heard something different in those tracks, and he “went for the difference. I never got a break in New York, but England happened right away, so I catered to them.” In any event, the Todd Terry sound was born with releases including classic underground tracks A Day In The Life, Weekend, and Can You Party, plus crossover chart smashes, ‘Keep On Jumpin’ featuring super-divas Martha Wash and Jocelyn Brown to ‘Somethin Going On’ plus his legendary remixes for everyone from SNAP to Annie Lennox to George Michael to Bjork and of course the huge remix that gave Everything But The Girl their first ever hit with ‘Missing’. Todd is one of the world’s most celebrated figures in dance music. With almost two decades of dance floor domination under Todd’s belt the quality of his productions goes from strength to strength. And if you’re in a Brighton mood, then you’ll also want to know that on 22 July Joey Beltram heads to Memory Box at Patterns, followed by an Acid Rave with Luke Vibert and Justin Robertson on 12 August.
Patterns in Brighton first hosted Memory Box, the London club night making noise with its regular sonic memoirs of electronic music, in July last summer with a sell-out party featuring Nightmares On Wax, Luke Vibert and Memory Box creator Robin Ball, followed by another sell-out in September with Farley Jackmaster Funk, Phil Hartnoll from Orbital and Luke Vibert, and then of course Derrick Carter back in March this year.
