Quo Vadis is proud to welcome back beloved Manchester two-piece Demdike Stare to Brooklyn on May 5th with Downwards Records label boss Regis. Joining them will be Brooklyn's Abby Echiverri and Maria Chavez. QV residents Covert Joy will take over the Bad Room from open to close.
~~~ DEMDIKE STARE ~~~
Demdike Stare is a collaboration between Sean Canty and Miles Whittaker, two childhood friends from the North of England with voracious appetites for record collecting. After years spent mining vinyl bins for source material, the pair started collaborating in earnest back in 2008, re-appropriating sounds they had spent a lifetime cataloguing into weird and immersive music of their own. The project went on to produce a string of albums that were largely guided by the occult and the strange symbolism their surroundings in Pendle provided, but as a number of intriguing DDS mixtapes released over the last couple of years indicated, the project was starting to head in unexpected directions.The duo recently released Wonderland, the highly awaited LP that follows their Testpressing series and 2012 album Elemental. Their latest effort combines industrial, ambient, and techno with striking jungle rhythms.

Karl O'Connor is most certainly Regis and it is also highly probable that he propagates other pseudonyms. This has only added to the greater mythology surrounding the influential Downwards label that he has run with fellow art terrorist Peter Sutton (Female) since 1993. Unconventional and single-minded to say the least (what label can boast a back catalogue free of the industry standard cash cow remix) by decentralising the focus on the DJ/producer personality, he remains one of the more highly regarded creative forces within the British techno/electronic scene. Degenerate art indeed.

Abby Echiverri is an NYC electronic and visual artist. Her music is influenced by her experience working with audio equipment, classical training, and a love of composing on unfamiliar or obsolete machinery.
~~~ MARIA CHAVEZ ~~~
Born in Lima, Peru and based in New York City, Maria Chávez is best known as an abstract turntablist and sound artist. Accidents, coincidence and failures are themes that unite her sound sculptures, installations and other works with her improvised solo turntable performances.
