After a long break, Ambient Church has returned with Julianna Barwick performing live at First Unitarian Congregational Society in Brooklyn Heights, her first 2017 performance in NY. We will also hear/feel/see MAS YSA. a collaborator of Julianna's, playing a special ambient set accompanied by Michael Beharie. The night will begin with performances by artists from the NYC-based record label 38. In typical Ambient Church fashion, the space will be transformed through lighting, projections, and incense.

Some sounds become as indecipherable as the human voice. Comparable to Björk’s Medulla approach to end instrumentation, most of the tracks are all vocal based. Julianna’s all vocal album has less of a political method behind it as does Björk’s Medulla; it’s based more on her natural approach to songwriting: spontaneously improving and recording immediately. MAS YSA is Thomas Arsenault. Born in Montreal Canada, Arsenault spent his formative years in Sao Paulo, Brazil before moving to the United States to study modern composition at the Oberlin Conservatory. Living between Brooklyn and Woodstock, NY, Mas Ysa released two albums: 2014’s Worth & 2015’s Seraph, both of which received critical acclaim and saw Mas Ysa touring extensively with the likes of Deerhunter, Delorean, Young Fathers and Juliana Barwick. As a composer, Arsenault has worked with extensively with choreographer Rashaun Mitchell; most recently on the piece Teserack and previously on the pieces Nox and Interface. Arsenault currently resides in New York City where he is working on a new collection of songs and compositions.

MANKIND is an NYC-based artist coming out with his debut album "Missing Person" on 38.
FANTASY LEAGUE is a collaboration between NYC-based artists Pleasure Centers and KJ.
NATHAN PHILLIPS is a composer, solo musician and collaborator working in multiple directions. At one end focusing his attention in vocal based pop music and at another on experimental sprawl. An Ohio native, Nathan lives in NYC. He is working on his 6th full length album, an accumulation of moment to moment trials and well-trodden popular music.
