• We can use all sorts of impressive words to talk about Dj Harvey, the Myth, but none of them are enough. He his a provocative and fearless Dj with a deep knowledge of music. His influence is huge, but could be even bigger. He knows not only about dance music, specially Disco and all its sub genres, he also knows about rock. He started as a drummer in a post-punk act, plays in the sweaty stone rock band Map of Africa, has the psychedelic garage rock Wildest Dreams moniker, he likes to surf and drive classic motorbikes... he is a true enfant terrible with records to please all types of crowds, even those that don't exist yet. The only reason he his still discrete (even though every record he plays becomes cult item) is that he is not really interested in becoming bigger, or the rules that could make him get there. When he recently announced the 2017 club tour, Harvey told Resident Advisor "I honed my trade in nightclubs and warehouses and in many respects, it's where my heart lies and where I feel like I function best." Dj Harvey is like a guru who takes us on a mental, physical and spiritual journey. His gigs are celebration moments where we can discover stuff about ourselves, the others and the music that binds us. You need time for that, and dialogue between Dj and crowd, things that hard to achieve in wide spaces, with peoplescattered around the geography, wandering attention. Harvey's return to nightclubs is a return to intimacy and an almost ritualistic way of playing records. Like all myths, reality and fantasy are always mixed when we talk about Harvey. We know about his forced exile in the US and how it turned him into the most wanted Dj. Legend grew with word of mouth about his parties, the obscure dance edits that became must haves because everybody wanted to feel his Midas touch (and then, everybody wanted to make disco edits because of him). That's what brought him to this moment in time, when Rolling Stone names him one of the most influential Djs in the world, but it all started long ago. Harvey Basset is British, from Cambridge, as a teenager he was drummer on a band called Erzats (John Peel played them), he then discovered Djing through hip hop (he was a graffiti writer for some time, as well), in the 80s he was part of the Tonka Hi Fi soundsystem, known for legendary and endless parties during the acid house period. In the early 90's he started playing in London Clubs and soon became one of the most important names in the circuit, known for spinning all types of music and making it work on the dance floor. That's still his magic. The freedom and broad range of choices, the global vision and the ability to understand the flow of energy that comes from people on the dancefloor. And off course, the surprise effect. Because of that and because he is an old friend, Lux is pleased to have been chosen by Dj Harvey to be part of a select group of clubs where he will play long (six hours, at least), intense and daring gigs. - Isilda Sanches
