Since its launch in 1998 Robin has signed over 75 international artists to Immigrant, trailblazing a distinguished catalogue of techno and house releases spanning 16 years. It’s with this depth of experience, passion and vision that Robin has earned himself a mention in the annals of electronic music history. His interest in music surfaced when American hip-hop culture ‘bum-rushed’ the UK in the mid 80’s via local pirate radio stations. When the sound evolved into ‘hip-house,’ followed rapidly by ‘acid house,’ during the late 80’s/early 90’s, he established a deep connection with piano fueled Chicago house and the wonky dissonance of Detroit techno witnessed at Manchester’s sacrosanct Hacienda, Konspiracy and PSV club. Early studio experiments with likeminded friends schooled Robin on the fundamentals of studio production and cultivated an early infatuation with ‘gear’ and ‘process.’ During his fertile days at University he DJ’d and promoted underground warehouse parties, surviving the UK rave scene relatively unscathed – inevitably finding himself in a field, on a beach or in an abandoned warehouse most weekends. It was this period of his musical journey that shaped his taste and ear the most – absorbing an eclectic fusion of musical genres delivered ‘en masse’ to tribes of free spirited, anti establishment party goers. These experimental years were decadent, but Robin appeared from the mushroom cloud with a crystal clear vision of a future career in music. After graduation he journeyed to California armed with a design portfolio, a bag of 12” vinyl, dreams of Air Jordan’s, Snoop and Baywatch. Realizing he needed a vehicle to creatively express himself and make his mark, he adopted the ‘Immigrant’ identity – a nod to the nomadic DJ lifestyle and the challenges of residing in the US as an ‘illegal’ alien. He soon developed relationships with pioneering US based DJ’s and producers John Tejada, Casey Hogan, Drumcell, Hyperactive, Alexi Delano and Silent Servant who’s own productions blurred the lines between techno and house – producing a darker more tribal sound that soon became synonymous with Immigrant. From his base in Los Angeles Robin spent a decade performing across North and South America, Canada and throughout Europe, shoulder to shoulder with the most prestigious talent in the industry, including; Adam Beyer, Luciano, Miss Kittin, Adam Shelton, Josh Wink, Steve Bug, Swayzak, Funk D’Void, Solomun, Drumcell, Subb-an Vince Watson and Anja Schnieder. For the last decade Robin has been back home in Manchester and continues to run the label and produce under his own name. He is heavily focused on developing a new techno project under the ‘Hydrafunk’ alias with long time friend and analogue synth guru Mike Carr. His original productions and remixes have appeared on notwworthy compilations such as ‘Fabric 16’ mixed by ‘Evil’ Eddie Richards and M.A.N.D.Y presents ‘Body Language Vol.10’ on ‘Get Physical,’ as well as featuring on the Mixmag ‘presents’ compilation mixed by Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler. He has hosted numerous label events at Barcelona’s ‘Sonar’ festival, directly collaborated with the WMC in Miami and has held residency at the notorious ‘T-Bar’ in London. In February 2017 Robin launches a new Immigrant Records radio show entitled ‘Border Crossing,’ airing every Friday at 11pm (GMT) on the Chilean digital radio station www.worldwideradio.fm.
