This year will see the 15th edition of Monegros Desert Festival. And few events in the world can claim such a long and successful career.
July 18th, 2009, Monegros calls all electronic music lovers anew, with Orbital and Carl Cox as main bands.
The story of Monegros starts in 1993 when 200 people, at the end of a session in the club F135, decided to continue the party as a Rave in a nearby house. This place, where the festival still takes place, is by the National II, one of the most famous roads in Spain connecting Barcelona and Madrid, which runs across more than 100 kilometres of the Monegros Desert, an amazing land full of hills with brown tonalities that remind us of an American Western.
The spontaneous idea of mixing techno and adventure worked perfectly, and that small audience soon became huge: the festival grew by word of mouth and thanks to some brave DJs that, together with a dedicated audience, affronted the dog days of the desert.
The first important DJs arrived at the end of the nineties: Carl Cox, Derrick May, Laurent Garnier…. In 2000 the public was doubled, with some 10,000 attendants.
Currently the festival is incorporating new styles, such as hip hop, electro or house.
The first huge marquees have become a hallmark of the festival. In 2003, Monegros offered the first big names: Thievery Corporation, Grandmaster Flash… From 2004 on, it started to present performances of myths within the music scene: Snoop Dog, The Prodigy, Underworld, Cypress Hill, Orbital… And there are those loyal DJs that have been with us from the very beginning: Richie Hawtkin, Dave Clarke, Oscar Mulero, Ben Sims… This evolution has defined the career of the Monegros Desert Festival and has made of it a must for thousands of young people.
This year Monegros Desert Festival celebrates its 15th edition proposing a new step in its on-going evolution: 5 stages working non-stop for 20 hours with more than 50 artists. Techno, electro, house, minimal, hip hop, drum’n’bass… A spectacular production and an amazing place. A party. An adventure. Just an unforgettable experience.
