We are incredibly proud to announce our seventh annual installment of Musique Èlectronique at La Fête de Marquette. A two day electronic music festival celebrated side by side with the renowned La Fête de Marquette Festival in Madison's Central Park. This year we are back again on Saturday evening at our giant tent known as the 'The Moon Stage' which is on the Brearly Street side of Central Park. Musique Èlectronique also has two extraordinary nights at the High Noon Saloon planned, with an opening night party on Friday evening and a special 'Musique After Dark' session on Saturday night.
Headlining this years festival is platinum-selling recording artist, Kevin Saunderson. As one of the creators of techno, he is a true cultural icon who continues to innovate and elevate techno and house music for over 30 years now. Sub-headliners this year include internationally acclaimed artists Octo Octa, Miles Maeda, and Justin Long. We also have outstanding local support from Golden Donna, Jared Perez, and Glynis.

Artist Biographies
Kevin Saunderson
Platinum-selling recording artist, label boss, festival promoter, true innovator in the pantheon of popular music, cultural champion, cracking DJ: there’s a lot to be said about Kevin Saunderson.
His influence runs deep, through both adopted hometown of Detroit, and music culture as a whole: as one of the Belleville Three, the high school trio which also includes Juan Atkins and Derrick May, he irreparably changed the face of electronic music; with Inner City, he gave it some of its most memorable tunes.
The genesis of today’s enormous techno scene can be retraced straight to Kevin, Derrick and Juan, as their formative experiments on rudimentary hardware sketched a blueprint for a genre that was yet to exist. By absorbing Kraftwerk, cutting-edge funk, local radio stalwart The Electrifying Mojo’s electicism, and all manner of new synthesiser and drum machine-led pop music, the Belleville Three broke new ground as musicians and DJs in the 80s.

Saunderson’s comparatively late start as a producer – kicking off in ’87 under the moniker of Kreem, with E-Dancer and Reese two of the more well-known names to follow – inadvertently gifted him a headstart. With the eruption of house music a few hours down the I-94 in Chicago, Saunderson married Detroit’s raw sound to more tactile, pop-leaning sensibilities. Inner City was born, and global success followed.
Between “Big Fun”, “Good Life”, debut album Paradise and a number of follow-up singles, Inner City (Saunderson and vocalist Paris Grey) amassed 12 UK top 40 hits and over six million records sold worldwide during their peak. A dancefloor-dominating remix by Luciano in 2008, and a globetrotting reunion tour in 2012, underscores the longevity of Inner City’s classic sound.
His nickname of ‘The Elevator’ is apt: for his role in transporting Detroit’s new sound to a wider audience; as anyone who has seen him perform live can attest, his high-energy, high-spirit and high-impact DJ sets; and for spending the past 35 years of his life progressing the culture he helped create.
Operating in tandem to his golden run as a producer in the late 80s and early 90s, Saunderson’s own KMS record label – a remarkable 30 years strong in 2017 – has chronicled the early footsteps of R-Tyme, Blake Baxter, MK, Chez Damier, Derrick Carter, Bicep and even Saunderson’s son and regular DJ partner Dantiez more recently.
A special 12” series in 2008 called History Elevate, released in tandem with fellow polymath Carl Craig’s Planet E label, brought contemporary names like Mathew Jonson, Simian Mobile Disco and Loco Dice into the fold, proving his nous for fostering relationships with each new wave to come through techno’s gates. 25th anniversary compilations and numerous reissues have followed suit.
Saunderson has a behind-the-scenes role to play, too: he is intertwined with the history of Detroit’s flagship Movement (formerly Detroit Electronic Music Festival / Fuse-In). Having produced the event in the mid-2000s, the last handful of years have seen repeated invites from Movement to display his ORIGINS showcase at the festival, bringing acts like Delano Smith, Phuture and DJ Minx under his curatorial umbrella.
And of course, with a stacked international touring schedule over the decades, playing in nearly every country and at nearly every festival or club worth mention, he has not stopped pushing the feeling of techno on and on.

Octo Octa
It shouldn't be surprising that Brooklyn-based producer Octo Octa (née Maya Bouldry-Morrison) had already logged tireless years as a fringe IDM artist and sound designer before her debut EP Let Me See You lasso'd a mighty wave of international house-heads to the dance-floor and helped push underground house label 100% Silk onto everyone's radar in 2011. Seven records later, which include a misty deep-house slow-burner in the Where Did You Go/Through The Haze 12" for Chicago-based, Smartbar DJ Steve Mizek's Argot imprint and the soaringly luxurious More Times EP for German powerhouse Running Back, Bouldry-Morrison's finely-tuned marriage of exquisite compositional flare, meticulously-sculpted sonics, and primal dance-floor functionality has earned her a a Red Bull Music Academy residency in Manhattan, which found the producer working closely with Harald Bjork and Throwing Snow, as well as tours across the world that included coveted gigs at Berlin's Panorama Bar, Frankfurt's Live At Robert Johnson, and Barcelona's Sonar Festival. SPIN Magazine championed her percussive floor-burner "Cause I Love You" as one of the 50 Best Dance Songs Of 2014, Octo Octa's resume continues to grow in 2017, with tour dates around the globe, and a full length album being release on Honey Soundsystem

Justin Long
Chicago native Justin Long discovered his fascination for uncanny music at an early age when his mother entrusted him with her record collection that spanned from UK punk to American dance. This served as a gateway, stimulating his journey into the sonic vortex. As a child of Medusa’s on Sheffield, Long gained a higher level of musical education. His weekly pilgrimages to this venue’s all-ages hedonistic dance parties supplied a compelling musical concoction of acid house, UK bleep, industrial and new wave. Possessed by these unorthodox forms of music, Long purchased his first set of turntables and began to collect 12-inch singles from local record shops. Though his intentions were solely to pander to his musical appetite in the privacy of his bedroom, this acquisition proved to be the genesis of a voyage that continues to present him with new challenges that are met with an unforgiving dogmatic approach.
Long can be found on every third Saturday at Hugo Ball, a gathering that was founded with music collaborator, Nathan Drew Larsen and sustained with the Hugo Ball troupe. From 2014 on, Long has been a Senior Resident of Smart Bar.
The Hugo Ball Troupe is a collective of vinyl selectors that execute one of Chicago’s most attended underground dance parties on the third Saturday of each month at Smart Bar. Experienced Chicago DJs Justin Long, Nathan Drew Larsen, Samone, Sevron, and Marlon Montez have forged a sound based on a shared belief that genre and time are flexible concepts when building the soundtrack for the dance floor. The Hugo Ball sound is a wild blend of music that harkens back to the notion of mixing tracks for the club as a form of collage. Amidst the orchestrated hedonism, the residents also focus on exploring the artistic and social values that have made Chicago’s dance music underground historically significant and worthy of canonizing. The sweaty, surreal and primitive experiences that people have come to expect from Hugo Ball stand in stark contrast to the spectator-based lifestyle events that are synonymous with most modern dance parties. Like the cogs of a savage machine, the individual personalities and skills of the Hugo Ball Troupe come together to create a sound and atmosphere that is like none other..

Miles Maeda
He began as a college radio DJ in 1988. Moving to Chicago in the early 90's, he worked regularly with fellow nu-ravers Derrick Carter, Mark Farina and Spencer Kincey, later holding his own 10+ year residency at Smartbar. While living in San Diego, he began his study of yoga and meditation. This allowed him to travel to and eventually live in Tokyo for 6+ years which gave birth to the ecclectic ZenDaze party and the blossoming of Total M edits. Miles has recently moved back to Southern California with new productions and a 2017 Summer Tour in the wings.

Hello,
My name is Joel Shanahan and I write and perform under the aliases Golden Donna, Auscultation, and Purpura. I've released a number of tapes and records for labels like 100% Silk, CGI Records, Not Not Fun, Micronesia, Digitalis, Sacred Phrases, Field Studies, All Hell, and more. When I perform, I mostly bring gear and throw down hard on a live PA, but occasionally, if someone really wants me to DJ, I'll oblige and happily hit the decks as best I can. I'm currently based in Portland, OR. I've had the privilege of touring through the United States, Canada, Germany, Italy, France, Scotland, Poland, Belgium, and England. My music has been used in mixes from the likes of Claude Young, Surgeon, Jimmy Tamborello, Ethyl, and more.
