The 2017 program includes concerts, performances, installations, and discussions in a wide variety of formats. A spotlight of the festival will be focused on Elżbieta Sikora, the Polish pioneer of acousmatic music. Despite having received countless awards for her compositions, she has, up to now, not been well known in Germany. In fact, having lived in France since 1981, the composer is widely regarded as a French artist. In 2004, Sikora was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for her body of work.
After her training as a sound engineer in Warsaw at the end of the 1960s, Elżbieta Sikora (*1943) studied electronic music in Paris with François Bayle and Pierre Schaeffer, composition in Warsaw with Tadeusz Baird and Zbigniew Rudzinski, and finally, computer music at IRCAM in Paris and with John Chowning at Stanford University in California.
This year’s festival focus on Polish electronic music will be complemented with recent works by Polish composers Jagoda Szmytka and Katarina Glowicka.
