Late Night Audio with Motor City Drum Ensemble & Lowlife

  • Late Night Audio returns! Riding on the success of the launch of the new label in April we've managed to secure an exclusive booking to London, in the shape of Danilo Plessow - better known as Motor City Drum Ensemble. Its his only London appearance this year (with the exception of a brief appearance at Matter earlier in February) - hes done killer dancefloor cuts on Compost records and his own imprint Raw Cuts and Four Roses, as well as 20:20 Vision. He treads the ground where we love to play - bang smack in the middle of techno, house and disco ... party time :) Local hero Namedrop back residents Toby Tobias & Danny Clark. oh ... and because we 're doing this in the Queen of hoxton a spacious venue with a sound system tweaked by Late Night Audios own sound engineers and with 2 great rooms - we've invited our friends at LOWLIFE to host the 2nd room - so expect a full team of Lowlife Allstars doing what they do best and bringing the boogie to Shoreditch! With his engagement in a school big band he found his love for jazz – and from 11 years of age on he started working on his own music using a computer and samples. Being influenced by Jazz, Soul, Funk, Hip hop and House music, the first results were already released 5 years later on Stuttgart’s Pulver Records. Together with Joachim Tobias, Danilo had formed the House/Broken Beat project “Inverse Cinematics”: Seven 12” Records, one LP and many remixes and compilation appearances followed. The project was and still is a favourite of some of the world’s most influential leftfield djs such as Gilles Peterson, Rainer Trüby (with whom Danilo just started collaboration), Michael Rütten or Benji B. After several other cooperations and solo projects in the Nujazz vein (Hipster Wonkaz with P.Valentino for Ubiquity Records or solo as Aphro Pzyko for Raw Fusion), Danilo went back to his House music roots with the “Motor City Drum Ensemble”. In times when even big labels struggle to sell 500 copies, MCDE`S “Raw Cuts” series, released on his own label “MCDE” (run together with P. Valentino) sold a few thousands each, and his other own label “Four Roses Recordings” has been doing very good as well. Thanks to his remarkable musical talent and overflowing creativity, Danilo has become a sought after remixer as well. With just 24 years of age, he has already released on no less than 24 labels. 2009 started with a 12” for one of UK`s biggest house labels, 20:20 Vision, and Danilo now hits the road on a regular again to show some of his dj skills, which have brought him all over Europe, the US and Russia already. Toby Tobias http://www.myspace.com/tobytobiasmusic His first sampler was a Roland s-50 , bought in 1990 from Leytonstone , he started making techno/house hybrids , inspired by sounds of Colin Dale and Faver , as well as production partner being heavy b- boy , thus hip hop was a large part in the mix. His First track played in public was on Colin Favers'' demo dat pressure '' section, after that it all went a bit quiet as raving took precedence. .. DJing became more dominant at this stage, and parties at art college, and collaborations with free party organisations led to a set at Glastonbury in 93, as well as playing on top of Aonach Mor in fort william ... only when he moved to London in 95 did productions take shape again, the move from hardware to software in 2000 proved very fruitful, things started rolling and demos started flying out the door.... The first contract came from mr Steve kotey of bearfunk , although this took a year to come into fruition , during this time more material was sent out , and releases co-produced( with Craig McCullough ) as Alexis Forge on Low Pressings . Around 2003 the first release, on Bearfunk turned out in a remix for Akwaaba format, as a b side to an unknown Norwegian called Todd Terje. from here , a steady flow of productions and remixes has emerged , on Odori records , Hi-phen , Hector Works , Tracky Bottoms , Redux , Brontosaurus , Urban Myth, Tiny Sticks, Tirk ,and Rekids . Toby’s first Album on Rekids '' Space Shuffle '' was well received - making many top 20 album lists for 2008. He has rocked the roof off at Fabric with his tough and funky big-room underground house and charmed the pants off more intimate crowds with everything from dubby disco, funk and hip-hop to trip hop and Latin batucadas. Armed with a sensitivity and sense of occasion that few DJs possess Mr Brewster knows how to work a crowd in the best possible sense. Together with long-term pal Frank Broughton, Bill is author of the definitive history of DJing, Last Night A DJ Saved My Life & How To DJ (Properly) & founder of DJhistory.com. He has also found the time to launch several successful labels including deep house label Forensic. Michael Cook http://www.myspace.com/laughing_gravy He began DJing professionally at the age of 18 playing a heady mixture of Indy and early Hip Hop & Electro around the North West of England before leaving for the USA. He cites John Peel as his biggest and most formative musical influence and Michael’s musical tastes remain resolutely eclectic. Currently he plays various residencies in some of London’s top bars and lounges and regular club gigs including Lowlife both at home and internationally. x
