Nosaj Thing / Jacques Greene, Jim-E Stack

  • Nosaj Thing Los Angeles producer Nosaj Thing crafts stately, ethereal, synth-based instrumental hip-hop, with influences that range from Boards of Canada and DJ Shadow to Danny Elfman and Erik Satie. After a humble start crafting hip-hop-informed beats on his home computer, Thing was motivated to move in more experimental directions by the D.I.Y. rock scene at L.A.’s underground venue The Smell, where he made his live debut in 2004. Through online and in-person networking, message boards, and, eventually, at the more beat-oriented music spot Low End Theory, he came into contact with like-minded Angelenos including Flying Lotus, Nobody, Daedelus, and local legends (and personal heroes) like D-Styles and Daddy Kev. He released his debut Views/Octopus EP in 2006, whose track “Aquarium” was later used by rapper Kid Cudi as the basis of his “Man on the Moon”, and signed with Daddy Kev’s Alpha Pup imprint for his full-length debut, Drift, in 2009. He contributed beats to MCs Busdriver, Nocando, and Kendrick Lamar, and made remixes for Flying Lotus, Daedelus, Radiohead, and Health. His second album, Home - featuring Toro y Moi and Blonde Redhead’s Kazu Makino - was issued on Innovative Leisure in 2013. Chance the Rapper and Whoarei appeared on 2015’s Fated. While touring behind this record, Thing’s gear was stolen, causing him to lose over two years of work and, as a result, launching him in a new creative direction as he started again from scratch. The result is his most recent LP, Paralells, released on September 8th, 2017 on Innovative Leisure, which features Steve Spacek and Zuri Marley. Jacques Greene Jacques Greene is an acclaimed Canadian DJ and electronic music producer known for his house tracks, which often incorporate R&B and U.K. garage influences. Greene is credited alongside Disclosure and Kingdom, among others, with updating and repopularizing house music through a unique blend of post-dubstep/future bass and contemporary R&B. He has remixed tracks by artists such as Radiohead, Kay B, and Jimmy Edgar. His full-length debut, Feel Infinite, was released on LuckyMe in March 2017. Jim-E Stack Jim-E Stack is an LA-based, San Francisco-born producer, known for creating his emotive dance tracks from a myriad of inspirations and sources, including jazz, techno, and R&B. His most recent release, the It’s Jim-ee EP, preceded by the successful single “Deadstream”, was released in August 2017.
