The Blast: TQD X Critical Sound X Swing Ting

  • After the fireworks of the opening weekend, the In:Motion season kicks off in earnest with The Blast, bringing you a deadly triple header of upfront bass music from right across the spectrum. The power trio of Royal T, DJ Q and Flava D have been taking no prisoners since they announced their TQD supergroup – just listen to the razor sharp 21st century garage stylings of their debut album UKG for proof. They’re taking over Room 1 with help from the inimitable P Money, the super energetic sound of Skepsis and Butterz boys Elijah & Skilliam. Critical will lay waste to Room 2 headed up by Manchester’s leading lights Dub Phizix & Strategy. Matching half-step drum & bass rhythms with a warped sense of humour and dexterous lyrical flows, this pair are the perfect head-twisting headline act. Meanwhile New Zealand’s finest The Upbeats are set to bring their emotive, melodic twist on D&B to Bristol, but also hold tight for special guests Foreign Beggars weighing in with their incendiary mix of hip hop and dubstep. Surely one of the most essential stables in the booming UK club scene, Swing Ting take over Room 3 with a line-up that shines a light on some of the most adventurous talent in the game right now. Murlo needs little introduction, bringing his wide-ranging dancehall and soca influences to the table and landing on labels as legendary as Mixpak. His label mate Famous Eno and Swing Ting main man Samrai are equally poised to shut the dance down with their fresh and vital takes on the ever-evolving sound of grime.
