Home to one of Europe’s most vibrant club scenes, Barcelona is a city where artists, DJs and producers from all over the world come to connect and to party. Sonar Festival has played an essential role in the development of electronic music, technology and artistic innovation. But the independent cultural scene is also growing, with Barcelona’s local creators exploring new territories and pushing the boundaries of alternative and experimental scenes. Nocturnal City is a series of events running throughout 2017 exploring the state of nightlife and its influence. By connecting discussions in London with other world cities, the series explores how urban hubs and communities can learn from each other to create new cultural standards. From algorithmic dance parties to all-female techno collectives, the first virtual nightclubs to the queer club kids and their audacious fashion; a celebration of the scenes, the sounds and the first tube home. Commissioned and produced by Somerset House Studios. Curated by Estela Oliva. Nocturnal City London-Barcelona in partnership with Institut Ramon Llull.
