Simon is proud to invite two amazing selectors to GROOVE.! In this installment, he's invited Ricky & Diego Gamez to share the decks with him. He recently met Ricky playing in the Panther Room and loved his wonderful selection in records. Simon also enjoys all records Underground Quality puts out and is very excited to have Diego Gamez on board. Both Ricky & Diego will have you dancing all night! ::DIEGO GAMEZ::
Diego Gamez is a Venezuelan DJ/Producer born in Caracas, 1982. His career started at the early age of 17. Since the early age of 17 he was exposed to a rich musical and artistic upbringing. His mother is a renowned painter and children’s books illustrator and his father always had a keen interest for music and singing. His unique take on house and techno reflects the world around him and his personal journey through music. Translating his own feelings and thoughts about life into music. As he says, “It has to touch your soul and your mind, it must take you through journey, that is my vision as an artist”
After graduating from high school he got his first pair of decks and started collecting records, this way he began to scratch at the surface of electronic music. He first encountered, as a young lad, the strong Techno music scene in his home city Caracas, being drawn to its raw energy and passion. The high octane experience of the Venezuelan Techno scene left an enduring mark that reflects in the energy and technique of his sets. Today his DJ sets are seductive and hypnotic, influenced mainly by the raw and emotional Detroit and NY sound, being able to play low slung bass lines to rushing beats, always trying to tell a story. His years of experience as a DJ and as part of the crowd have taught him well how to work a dance floor.
As the years go by, Diego´s take on music has evolved and so have his his ears. He was drawn to alternative styles of music, exploring House, Techno, Soul, Jazz, Reggae, Latin music amongst others. Diego has gathered these influences to develop a unique and innovative sound for his DJ sets and productions. He also studied Audio Engineering in one of Venezuela´s most renowned audio school, the “Taller de Arte Sonoro” perfecting his craft as a sound designer and music producer. Time spent studying audio engineering and working in one of the most illustrious Jazz studios in Venezuela broadened his tastes and allowed him to feed this knowledge back to his own music. He´s released music on Jus Ed´s renowned deep house label Underground Quality, with two solid EP´s of quality deep house and techno cuts, the first one is The Game´z EP which was his debut release on UQ and recently a V.A. alongside Lawrence, Dj Koze, Jo Nathan and Jus Ed. Later this year he will be launching his own personal imprint Deependance with a very welcomed first release due out in the next couple of months. He is also part of 333 of The Monkey Bar along side Alfonso, were he has released a V.A. with a Marco Shuttle remix. There is much to be expected form this up and coming artist, so keep on the lookout.

Ricky's varied style ranges from underground Disco, new and classic Deep House and Techno, with Jazz and Tribal influences. This multifaceted combination has developed into a unique and innovative sound for his DJ sets.
After settling in New York in 2006, he quickly became a regular part of a forward thinking DJ collective in the city, playing sets for SheiknBeik, The Deep, Rinsed and others. With a previous residency for Le Baron under his belt, he plays regularly at New York's Le Bain, at Macarena in Barcelona, and can often be found playing at his favourite venues in the Dominican Republic since pioneering the the Sunday Organic parties with Shaveurlegz.

Though thousands of DJs are discouraged from pursuing careers in becoming a Disc Jockey due to its volatility and instability, a small handful with relentless dedication, undying passion, and seemingly limitless creativity somehow always seem to break through, making a lasting impact on the electronic dance music marketplace. Simon Heyliger is one of these young individuals. And this is his story.
Straight out of Brooklyn, New York, Simon Heyliger is walking in the footsteps of some of the most recognized DJ’s out today; who have all had an impact on his style. He was partying at Club Exit, A New York City Super Club in the late 90’s, watching 3,000 people dancing and having the time of their lives when Simon realized his dream of touring the world and becoming an internationally known Disc Jockey. He wanted to be the one to provide the therapeutic enjoyment to the masses through dance music. And with that in mind, DJ Simon Heyliger was born. His unique style of spinning consists of electronic music genres such as House and Techno. He is constantly inspired by legendary New York City disc jockey, Danny Tenaglia.
Simon has spun at Output, Good Room, Pacha NYC, Cielo, District 36, Webster Hall, and Sullivan Room just to name a few. He has been hand selected to DJ at the Winter Music Conference in Miami & has been asked to play at Sunday School presented by Made Event for 2 years in a row. Some world renowned DJ’s/Producers he’s played along with are The Martinez Brothers, Argy, Willie Graff, Carl Craig, Audiofly, Martinez and many more.
Simon has plans to stay focused on creating his own productions. This Brooklyn breakout star is definitely one to keep your eye on. He is already garnering local following and soon music lovers worldwide will be introduced to this class act.
