- The 23-track BBF, Hosted By DJ Escrow LP is due out in April.
Dean Blunt's Babyfather will release its debut album, BBF, Hosted By DJ Escrow, via Hyperdub on April 1st.
Babyfather is a project led by the former Hype Williams man. The label hasn't provided any other details, which is no surprise given the shadowy nature of Blunt's many solo and collaborative projects. Babyfather's first 12-inch, Meditation, landed via Hyperdub in January, and featured production from New York experimentalist Arca. They later followed up with the 25-minute Platinum Tears mixtape, which has since been removed from the SoundCloud link where it was hosted.
Up next is BBF, Hosted By DJ Escrow, a 23-track album that will be followed by a handful of live gigs on the European festival circuit in April and May. Arca again appears on three of the album cuts, while Mica Levi features on "God Hour" and DJ Escrow returns after featuring on two of Blunt's mixtapes. (It's unclear whether DJ Escrow is a real producer or simply another one of Blunt's aliases.)
Hyperdub's press release carries a quote from actor Idris Elba, who says, "Without a doubt, I guarantee that it will be in rotation at every club, at every party and coming out the speakers of every car... this makes me proud to be British."
No previews of the LP are available yet, though you can hear their recent single for Hyperdub below.
