- The techno icon is also preparing a new Sleeper Wakes album called Free Fall Galaxy.
Jeff Mills' Axis Records has outlined details for a new high-quality vinyl offshoot called Axis Audiophile Series.
Releases on Axis Audiophile Series will be "mastered for high-fidelity sounds," and put on 180-gram virgin vinyl at 32-bit/48kHz. Up first, and scheduled to arrive next month, is Kobe Session, a live recording of Mills' electronic-jazz fusion band Jino Ohno Mitchell Mills. The group consists of Kenji "Jino" Hino on bass and vocals; Yumiko Ohno, of Buffalo Daughter, handling Moog synth; Underground Resistance's Gerald Mitchell on keyboard; and Mills himself on drum machine and percussion.
Jino Ohno Mitchell Mills played their first-ever shows together last September at TodaysArt.JP in Tokyo and Kobe. The latter performance is highlighted with this release, which features, along with introductions, a pair of tracks each measuring around 15 minutes in length. The band will start touring in the fall, though further details of that are TBA.
Also upcoming on Axis is a new solo LP from Mills, Free Fall Galaxy, the ninth chapter of his "science-fiction story" Sleeper Wakes, and first since 2014's Emerging Crystal Universe. It's described by the label as "[capturing] the triangular pursuit of a prey that falls victim to its attacker," and it's due to land in June.
