- The Gigolos boss has announced the full details of his forthcoming double album.
DJ Hell is set to release his fourth album later this year, which includes guest vocals from both Diddy and Bryan Ferry.
The album, entitled Teufelswerk (German for "Devil's Work"), is spread out over the course of two CDs, which have been divided into the themes of "Night" and "Day." As you'd expect, the more jacking club tracks are included on the "Night" disc, where Hell takes his early Chicago and Detroit influences and buffs them up with a modern sheen. Forthcoming single "The DJ" (which features Diddy on vocal duties) gives a nod to hip-house, whilst album-opener "U Can Dance" takes Bryan Ferry's backing vocals and weaves them into an epic discofied backing track.
The "Day" half of the record sees him hook up with multi-instrumentalists Christian Prommer and Roberto Di Gioia to produce his tribute to the Krautrock sound, and even includes a cover of Hawkwind's "Silver Machine." "I have done kosmische musik in a new way," states Hell. "This is where I come from, I grew up with the early German electronic pioneers of music, and this is why I went in this direction. Often it is called German electronic avant-garde, or psychedelic music. I went back to the '70s and tried to do it in my own way."
Both sides of the record have been produced with Peter Kruder, which was originally played to journalists in Hamburg's St. Pauli Stadium in July last year. When we asked Hell why it's taken this long for the final version of the record to see the light of day, his answer was short but sweet: "Good things take time." You'll be able to make your own minds up when the record finally drops in April.
