- The Cobblestone Jazz pianist is ready to release his first solo album.
Canadian artist Danuel Tate will release his debut album, Mexican Hotbox later this fall on Wagon Repair.
Until now, Tate has been known primarily as the pianist for Cobblestone Jazz. But Tate's talents are by no means limited to the keyboard; he's put out two solo 12-inches for Wagon Repair so far, both of which blend acid jazz with upbeat, modern house. According to a press release, his new album follows a similar blueprint, mixing 1930's style swing with electronic beats of widely varying tempos (including one track that cruises along at 170 BPM). Generous amounts of brass are included, and virtually every track features the vocoder that graces much of his older material. The album features all new tracks, except for "Careful Mind," which appeared on last year's Doesn't Like You Back EP.
