- The prolific Jersey City producer will release an album or EP per month via his own Templo Recordings.
Jorge Velez will release MMT8 Archive 1 to kick off a monthly archival recordings series via Templo Recordings this May.
The US producer formerly known as Professor Genius has been sitting on a wealth of unreleased material. Back in 2012, Rush Hour sifted through a trove of unreleased '90s recordings for the MMT Tape Series: Home Recordings 1996-1999 EPs and compilation. Last week, Will Lynch spoke with Ron Morelli, who has worked extensively with Velez, for RA's Exchange podcast. In the interview, Morelli linked the success of L.I.E.S. to friends with hundreds of unreleased tracks produced in a casual manner—a description that fits Velez almost perfectly.
Velez plans to post unheard recordings to the Templo Recordings Bandcamp once a month. Velez told RA: "May's Templo release is the first of several planned collections of tracks from the same cassette archive that sourced the MMT Tapes... found after the tracks for those releases were selected." The compositions on MMT8 Archive 1 appear in original, unedited form and were recorded between 1996 and 2000. May's edition comprises over 45 minutes of previously unreleased music.
