- A composition used in films Arrival, Disconnect and Shutter Island will get a 12-inch release.
Ambient composer Max Richter has revealed plans for a new label called StudioRichter.
The label will launch with a 12-inch edition of "On The Nature Of Daylight," the opening and closing theme from upcoming science fiction film Arrival. Due out on December 16th, the 12-inch includes the original quintet recording of Richter's composition, along with the version recorded by a full string orchestra. The track originally appeared on Richter's 2004 The Blue Notebooks album, and has since been used in the soundtracks of two other films: Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island, and Henry Alex Rubin's Disconnect.
"'On The Nature Of Daylight,' is a reflection on my own childhood and that fantasy space that children sometimes retreat into," Richter says about the track. "An alternate reality of safety, quiet and sanity. I never imagined that the piece would have a life outside this context. It was so personal."
