The Canadian artist's "last party playing live hardware club music" goes down in Montreal on September 20th.
Marie Davidson will step away from the club music world after a Red Bull Music Festival party on September 20th in Montreal.
Earlier today, Davidson posted a note to Instagram stating, "The day has come for me to depart from the club scene to explore new horizons." She goes on to frame the party on the 20th, which goes down at Studio Notre-Dame, as her "last party playing live hardware club music which will take place in my home town, Montreal." The full bill includes recent Breaking Through subjectAfrodeutsche, Kara-Lis Coverdale and Underground Resistance Presents Depth Charge, among others.
Davidson has long expressed ambivalence towards the late-night dance music world. Her 2016 solo album Adieux Au Dancefloor "dealt with the darker issues surrounding club culture," according to Holly Dicker's RA profile on Davidson. She explored similar themes on last year's Working Class Woman full-length for Ninja Tune, which included the Soulwax-remixed club hit "Work It."
