The Sydney artist will play shows and host DJing classes for female-identifying participants over the coming months.
Luen will self-release her first EP this month.
The Sydney artist has primarily worked as a DJ around Australia for the past several years, only publicly making an entrance into the world of production this year. The record, which will be released digitally and on vinyl by Luen herself on October 31st, features her first three original tracks as well as a remix from local producer Patch Free.
The release will be immediately followed by a long string of tour dates all around the country. Along the way she'll be hosting workshops and teaching female-identifying participants how to DJ, something she began experimenting with earlier in 2019 with great success. "I applied for a grant with the Australian Arts Council off the back of this projects and found out that I was successful, so I pulled together 13 workshops this time around Australia," she explains. "300+ women will be taught on this tour.
"The idea behind the workshops is to teach women with little to no experience in DJing how to use standard club setups, curate music for different spaces, some DJ tricks and industry advice. This is to try and encourage more women into the industry which might help lessen some of the disparity we see between women and men behind the decks. Even if the women don't go on to follow a career in DJing, they may feel more comfortable standing in the front row at their favourite shows, entering record stores or talking to a DJ in a nightclub."
