- The new rules, which apply to groups of more than 30 people, come into effect this Friday, August 28th.
New fines are being introduced in England to target the organisers of mass gatherings, including illegal raves.
The rules, which come into effect this Friday, August 28th, will target groups of more than 30 people, the BBC reports. Organisers of the events can be fined up to £10,000, while anyone found without a mask can be fined £100, which will double with every repeat offence up to £3,200.
The news comes as illegal raves and house parties continue to spring up across England. According to Sky News, London's Met Police alone have responded to more than 1,000 events since the end of June. Last month, 3,000 people gathered for an illegal rave just outside Bath.
The current rules in England allow either six people from multiple households, or up to 30 people from two households, to gather outdoors. The new rules do not apply to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
