Adrian Sherwood's On-U Sound label is reissuing the New Age Steppers catalogue.
New Age Steppers was a collective formed around Sherwood and Ari Up (who is also known for her work in her other band, The Slits), with appearances from members of acts like The Raincoats and The Pop Group over time. They were one of the earliest acts on On-U Sound, and released three albums on the label in the '80s. Those records—Action Battlefield, Foundation Steppers and the self-titled LP—are all being reissued on vinyl.
The band stayed active up until Ari Up's death in 2010. A posthumous album, Love Forever, was released in 2012, and will now get its first-ever vinyl pressing. There's also a new compilation of outtakes and rarities called Avant Gardening.
All of the records have new liner notes from RA contributor Oli Warwick, featuring interviews with Sherwood and other musicians. The reissues are also being combined into a five-CD box set, Stepping Into A New Age, which comes with a 32-page book.
