  • Not-for-profit UK label Needs is partnering with Green Vinyl for its ninth release, due out on September 24th. NEEDS009 comes after the imprint almost decided to stop releasing vinyl due to environmental concerns around the energy required to make it and the non-biodegradable nature of most vinyl records. The label instead contacted Green Vinyl, a Holland-based pressing plant that uses an injection moulding process that needs less power and also offers a wider frequency spectrum than traditional vinyl (PVC) records. Most importantly, the records are 100 percent recyclable, and are pressed without paper labels. "Hopefully through this release we can raise awareness about this revolutionary new technology and inspire others to think about the way they produce vinyl," Needs says. The new compilation features tracks from Saoirse, Sansibar, Reptant, Hassan Abou Alam, Pugilist and LUXE. Check out the full release on Bandcamp. Listen to "Rotational Speed."
