  • Kyiv club Otel' is raising funds to help pay utility bills that have been mounting since the start of the Russian invasion. Almost overnight, the experimental venue was transformed into a space to help Ukraine's defence effort. Food and supplies were stored on-site and Molotov cocktails were prepared. Speaking to Resident Advisor, owner Pavlo Derhachov said bills began soaring when the weather was cold and heating was required for the volunteers. "At the very beginning of the war, our team and volunteers prepared Molotov cocktails for civil defence [forces] after Russian troops invaded the city," he said. "Otel' was solely used as a logistic space, but now the flow of money is important so we can pay bills, keep our economy alive and continue to work [...] It's a non-stop process. All facilities of the Otel' club, including walkie-talkie radios, were given to defence." Derhachov said he and the crew have been keeping their spirits up by plugging into Facebook group The Worst Techno Memes Ever. "We have to stay inspired, and this keeps us in a good mood as it resonates with our big love of electronic music." To help pay the bills, Otel' has teamed up with ticketing platform OTTRY to sell one-off tickets that will give fans access to any future events at the venue. Tickets will be sent via email as QR codes. You can also donate directly and help the club reach its 90,000 UAH (£2448) target. Before the latest invasion by Russia, Otel' was one of Kyiv's most popular clubs, hosting the likes of Poly Chain, Ansome and Jana Woodstock. It sits in the same industrial complex as another beloved spot, Closer. Here are some recent photos of the war effort.
