- Waiting Game is out on City Slang in October.
Junior Boys are releasing their sixth album on October 28th.
Due via City Slang, Waiting Game is Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus's first full-length since 2016's Big Black Coat. The LP, which features cameos from multi-instrumentalist Colin Fisher and Bonjay frontwoman Alanna Stuart, was written in Greenspan's studio in Hamilton, starting in early 2020.
Greenspan—who finished the album solo after a weeks-long jam with Didemus—took inspiration from long lockdown walks listening to the late artists Florian Schneider, Jon Hassell and McCoy Tyner, as well as Sly & The Family Stone and John Martyn. The depth and detail in their music sparked a realisation about the role of volume.
"A weird fact of the perception of sound is that you hear more accurately at lower levels of volume," he said. "You can get into a space most intensely that way, and I realised that I wanted to make a pop record that lived in that space."
He added: "I see the Junior Boys audience as private, as listening deeply [...] Waiting Game is intended to give the listener some respite. I like the idea of people putting it on at home and exhaling in relief, even if that relief is tinged with some sadness."
