  • Revered experimental artist Murcof, AKA Fernando Corona, has a new alias, Twin Color. Exploring post-punk, new wave and synth wave, the project is inspired by the radio stations of Corona's youth in Tijuana and San Diego, as well as artists such as Depeche Mode, Thompson Twins and Ultravox. The first release, Extended Play N°1, is out through InFiné Music next Friday, December 2nd. "I started working on Twin Color during the first wave of the pandemic, back in early/mid-2020," said Corona. "I was playing around in the studio trying to come up with some ideas for a possible new Murcof album. Those first sketches were a bit Murcofy, but very soon afterwards it became obvious this was something else and that indeed it required its own unique name." The EP features the manipulated vocals of Corona's daughter, Alina, who paid regular visits to the studio during the production process. "I began recording our little jam sessions just for fun and perhaps also as a way of showing her some of the sound manipulation possibilities on the computer," he added. "But later, when I was again on my own working on the music, I thought I would give some of the more melodic bits of her voice a try on the demos I was making, time stretching, formant shifting and Auto-Tuning it as I went along." To accompany the music, visual artist Simon Geilfus has created a virtual universe using the graphics software Unreal Engine 5. Watch a teaser for Twin Color.
