  • SBTRKT is releasing his first album since 2016. Out on May 5th, The Rat Road will be the UK artist's third full-length. He described it as his "most sonically ambitious record to create" and said he's following his "own musical path—which isn't based on others' perceptions of what SBTRKT should be." The tracklist is still TBA. He continued: "It's partly based on my own challenging experiences within the music industry and life generally. Although I realised the idea isn't isolated from a much wider feeling of exhaustion, something that is definitely true here in the UK, with little sense of respite from ever-increasing costs, decreasing opportunities and a bold divide-and-conquer mentality. There is the juxtaposition in the record between determination and hopelessness." The announcement coincides with the release of SBTRKT's new track, "Waiting," featuring US rapper Teezo Touchdown. Last year he put out four singles: "FORWARD," "GHOST," "Miss The Days" and "BODMIN MOOR"—his first new music since 2016's SAVE YOURSELF album. He's also been confirmed to play London festival Field Day on August 19th. Listen to "Waiting feat. Teezo Touchdown," and read SBTRKT's contribution to this piece celebrating 20 years of London party CDR.
