  • Japanese festival rural is returning for its 15th year this summer. Running from July 15th through 17th, the event will take place at Naeba Greenland in Niigata. It'll be its first time in the mountains since the 2019 edition at Nagano's Sutakako Camping Ground. The music will be split across two stages: HEXA and PENTA. Legendary techno duo Sandwell District will return to Japan, while Terrence Dixon, Piezo and Higher Intelligence Agency all make their national debuts. There are also slots for Vladimir Ivkovic, Chee Shimizu and Phew, plus rural regulars Wata Igarashi and Solar. Browse the full 2023 lineup, and revisit our review of rural 2018.
Photo: Yumiya Saiki Correction, April 19th: A previous version of this article said it was the festival's 13th edition when it's in fact its 15th year. 'Niigata' and 'Nagano' were also spelled incorrectly, and there were several errors with regards to which artists on the lineup will be making their festival and national debuts.
