  • Manchester-based music magazine SEEN is set to host a takeover of Manchester Museum this Saturday, July 1st. Part of the wider Manchester International Festival 2023, Sonics, Stories and Scenes of the Diaspora explores the impact of South Asian artists on the global music scene. The event will feature DJ sets from Manara, A.G., Pandit G, Zaleel and SHIMRISE (hosted by Daytimers' Chandé), a panel with guests Alina Akbar, Saminah, Johnny Jay and Tayyab Amin, film screenings from Alina Akbar and Pranav Saji Krishnan, and a henna workshop from Huq That. Later that evening, an afterparty in collaboration with London-based festival Dialled In will be held at Soup. The night will feature music from Almass Badat, Samrai, Chandé, Artist Lebo and Sophia. Launched last October, SEEN is a Manchester-based magazine aimed at countering "the London-centric narrative that often dominates music journalism" and allowing communities to "narrate their own stories and heritage, while connecting to global scenes linked to Britain's colonial history."
