  • London music and arts venue IKLECTIK might be demolished to make way for a new office development. The not-for-profit creative space provided an update on the situation via Instagram last Friday, June 30th, explaining that its future is "uncertain" beyond January 2024. "The developers propose five tower blocks, which would be the largest single office development ever built in [the Metropolitan Borough of] Lambeth and see the demolition of Old Paradise Yard, plus all of the businesses based here, including IKLECTIK," the post read. The venue said that The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has the power to overturn Lambeth Council's decision to approve the development, and has asked the local music community to email him insisting that he does so. An online petition, active since last September when the proposal became public knowledge, has already amassed more than 40,000 signatures. IKLECTIK has provided a platform to music and art from the experimental fringes since opening in 2014. In July alone, the Waterloo venue welcomes performances from the likes of James Holden, Powell, Nkisi and Christina Vantzou. Email the mayor, and read IKLECTIK's post in full.
