  • US festival Honcho Campout's annual Queer Fam Fund is still accepting donations for the 2023 edition. The fundraiser is to subsidise transport and ticket costs for those facing financial barriers. The fund covers travel, camping gear, general admission and meals throughout the event. The festival's facilities fee, which all attendees pay as part of their ticket, will also be covered. The fund sponsors more than 65 recipients each year, prioritising Black, Indigenous, people of colour and people of trans experience. Sponsored attendees are crowdfunded entirely by donations and fundraisers, helping to expand the community of people who can enjoy the festival each year. "Camping festivals are expensive, and Honcho Campout is no different" Honcho told Resident Advisor. "Campout's remote location, thoughtful production and commitment to retaining an intimate size adds many extra layers of cost to the festival. Because of this, the barrier of entry is even higher for those living at the margins. They can't afford to access experiences that provide a break from the world—an irony because the music we hear at these festivals and on dance floors often originates from these communities: queer, trans, and/or people of colour." Honcho continued: "The concept of 'decolonizing our dance floors' means we have to honour where music and culture (of which we are all active participants) comes from, bring those creators into the space, celebrate their contributions and ensure we're connecting justly to their communities. We live in a world of systems designed to prevent this from happening. We're all active stakeholders in the places of joy we make, and we can all contribute to make these spaces kinder and more just." This year's GoFundMe campaign is still open, with the current total standing at around $45,000. The goal is $50,000. You can donate now. Honcho Campout 2023 will take place at Four Quarters Interfaith Sanctuary in Artemas, Pennsylvania, from August 16th through 21st. Lineup highlights include Kilopatrah Jones, Ariel Zetina and CCL.
