  • German state TV channel Deutsche Welle has released a short film about the origins of techno and the role it's played in Berlin's recent history. How techno was born: From Detroit to Berlin and back features interviews with Alan Oldham (DJ T-1000), Ellen Allien, Juan Atkins and the founder of Berlin's Tresor club, Dimitri Hegemann. The film explores the period directly after the fall of the Berlin Wall and Detroit's influence of the then-nascent techno scene. The documentary has archive footage of Berlin in the late '80s and early '90s, including the very earliest days of Tresor and other clubs, and vintage interviews with Blake Baxter and Paul van Dyk. It was shot by journalist Ute Pfeiffer and uploaded to YouTube a week ago. Watch How Techno was born: From Detroit to Berlin and back.
