  • Russian electronic artist Phil Mirzoian, AKA Phil Gerus, has died aged 35. Mirzoian was the victim of a car accident in Batumi, Georgia on June 13th, according to a statement sent to Resident Advisor by Private Pool, the agency that represented him. Both Mirzoian and his brother were "hit by a car being driven by a drunk police officer while crossing the street," the statement read. He died in the ambulance. His brother survived, but "is in need of a long rehabilitation with several more operations due." Private Pool has set up a donation link for Mirzoian's family to help towards paying for funeral costs, lawyer fees and travel from Russia to Georgia. A Moscow-born DJ, producer and jazz pianist, Phil Gerus is best known for his releases on labels such as ManMakeMusic, FutureBoogie Recordings and Sonar Kollektiv. On the DJ front, he performed regularly in his hometown, and picked up additional gigs in Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg and Tokyo amongst other cities. His final release was February two-tracker Little Nothings. Donate to Mirzoian's family, and listen to some of Phil Gerus's best-loved tracks.
