  • San Francisco's Portola Festival is working with local officials on how to moderate sound for next year. When asked for comment about the City of Alameda's request to cancel the event, Daniela Hunt, Goldenvoice's PR manager, told Resident Advisor that they're "aware of the concerns from Alameda residents arising from Portola and are already in discussion with both San Francisco and Alameda officials on how we can make further improvements for 2024." According to the Alameda Sun, the live events giant and the city met later that day to discuss how to work together. Alameda's Vice Mayor Tony Daysog told the Alameda Sun that he's open to finding a compromise for all parties involved. He also confirmed to RA that "outside of litigation" with the organisers, the city of Alameda doesn't have many options to discontinue the San Francisco festival. Last week, the City of Alameda formally requested to cancel Portola Festival due to noise complaints for the second year in in a row. SFGate later reported that the bass in Skrillex's 90-minute set the second night "caused vibrations that shook people's homes and apartments." We'll report more as the story unfolds.
