  • The first exhibition at London's new V&A East museum will delve into the history of Black British music. Open from 2025, The Music Is Black: A British Story explores how Black British music has shaped UK culture over the last 125 years. Spanning four continents and 12 decades, it features artists such as Stormzy, Sampha, Kano, Little Simz and Ms. Dynamite. Drawing on archives, photographs, artefacts and film, The Music Is Black will touch on everything from the Windrush generation and the roots of Notting Hill Carnival through to Goldie's legendary drum & bass parties at the Blue Note and the global impact of grime. "V&A East is dedicated to opening up new creative opportunities for all," said the museum's director, Gus Casely-Hayford. "The Music Is Black: A British Story will be a landmark show foregrounding multiple perspectives to tell a long-overdue story about the creation of our national sound and its impact on culture around the world." Located close to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, East London, V&A East is set to become part of the £1 billion East Bank cultural quarter. It'll also hold an 80,000-item David Bowie archive. Watch a trailer.
