This year's DMA German Dance Music Awards will take place in Berlin September 2. Four categories are up for public voting, plus there’s a chance to win tickets to the ceremony.
Sponsored by dance music magazine Raveline, the DMA has been gathering steam over the last few years with wider press and TV coverage, not to mention the participation of big-name artists. Held at the ICC in Berlin, the ceremony is followed by an afterparty featuring many of the nominated acts. Last year participants included Moby, New Order, Tiesto, Alter Ego and Deep Dish.
Nominee and jury member Timo Maas is enthusiastic about this year’s event.
“I am very proud to be part of the DMA again, particular at a time when German electronic music is number one everywhere in the world!”
RA asked Philipp Brüning from the Hamburg label Poker Flat for his take on the awards. This year Poker Flat have been nominated in three categories.
“Both Trentemøller and Patrick Chardronnet are proud to be nominees. It’s good to know that German people take notice of their work in that way. Winning a prize or not, being one of the nominees is already a very nice compliment.”
The voting is a mixed affair combining jury and public voting. The jury is made up of over a hundred “international scene connoisseurs”, i.e. DJs, radio stations, label managers, record sellers, magazines and club managers. Click here for the full list of jury members. Curiously, some award nominees also sit on the jury including Paul van Dyk, Sven Väth, Tiesto, DJ Hell, Chris Liebing, Monika Kruse and Timo Maas. RA requested clarification about the system from the DMA but received no response.
Nevertheless, you can make your vote count in four of the categories and even win two VIP tickets to the ceremony with hotel expenses thrown in for good measure. Best DJ and Best Female DJ categories are decided by a mix of jury vote and public voting. The Best Club 2006 and Best Event 2006 categories are decided purely by the public. Make your vote count here.
The Best Dance Single category is decided by sales volume over the last twelve months.
