  • Chicago house pioneer Jesse Saunders needs help with his medical bills. The veteran DJ and producer, best known for his 1984 hit "On And On," has been struggling with various health issues after having a stroke in 2022. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help pay for his ongoing lodging in a care facility. The goal is $150,000. "Just recently, [Jesse's] health took a turn for the worse and he collapsed on the kitchen floor where he lives," reads the GoFundMe page. "His blood sugar and blood pressure were both dangerously off the charts. Right now, he needs our help in a big way. He is NOT in a good place—he cannot afford the care he needs in the rehab facility and is at risk of being released without further help." Saunders played a major role in the growth of house music during the '80s. As a resident at Chicago club The Playground, he championed Italo disco and more downtempo electronic sounds, gaining recognition for his smooth mixing and live improvisation.
