  • In Indonesia, the term santai (relaxed) is more than just an adjective—it's a lifestyle, one endearingly embodied by Bali-based DITA. The young DJ's breezy attitude to life is reflected in cheery selections that incorporate club grit into dreamy tones and blissful euphoria. From Balearic to '90s house and some spikier club fare, her sets are rooted in a feel-good philosophy that allows her to freely play with energy and mood. You'll hear that leap out on RA.959, but don't just take our word for it: DJ Harvey hand-picked DITA to be a resident at his new club Klymax, nestled within the world-renowned Potato Head Bali. DITA's ability to glide through genres without compromising her core palette was first honed in her hometown of Bandung and later Jakarta with the Perky Club collective. Her international career has latterly taken flight, as DITA aced her Dekmantel Festival debut, played Panorama Bar (the first Indonesian woman to do so), began popping up more regularly at institutions from Rainbow Disco Club to NTS, and began leading the music policy at Potato Head. DITA's RA Podcast is a window into both her disposition and sound, blending wiggly breakbeat into tweaking acid, Detroit house into Spanish electro and more. No matter where DITA goes, that killer sense of groove always follows. A breakout 2025 beckons. What have you been up to recently? As we approach the end of 2024, I've been reflecting on an incredible journey. My recent European tour was definitely a highlight; as the first Indonesian woman to DJ at Panorama Bar, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride representing my country. I also had the pleasure of touring Asia: shoutout to the Transport Crew in Bangkok; my Rainbow Disco Club family for their 15th anniversary in Bali, Korea and Vietnam; and also Mihn Club in Hong Kong, where I've fallen even more in love with the ever-evolving community in Asia. How and where was the mix recorded? And can you share the idea behind it? This mix was recorded at Headstream, our radio station at Potato Head, which was designed in collaboration with the Bali-based design practice ZXC Studio. The space is dedicated to showcasing Indonesian musicians and DJs on global airwaves, which holds special significance for me, as it's where I began my journey in the music industry. Developing a passion here and now being able to share it with the world feels incredibly fulfilling. Who are some essential DJs in Bali contributing to the local scene? So many talented people really deserve some love, like the Klymax residents—Gero, Archie and Seabass—always elevating the scene. The PNNY crew throws some of the island's most exciting parties. Danny, Ones and Kai from Tantrà have kept it real while supporting emerging artists. This new wave of DJs brings the same love, passion and curiosity that makes Bali's music culture so vibrant. We've seen this amazing sense of collective community emerge in the music scene on the island and I hope it inspires the next generation of dancers and DJs to keep the scene thriving. What have you learned about DJing from DJ Harvey? One key lesson I've learned is the importance of storytelling through music. As DJ Harvey says, context matters; he wouldn’t play "Get Down Saturday Night" on a Friday night! It's all about reading the room. What's one cause you wish more people would pay attention to? I believe it's so important to shine a light on the need for greater Southeast Asian representation at major music festivals. As an Indonesian artist, I've personally felt the pain of the barriers that many of us face, especially when it comes to visa challenges. These obstacles can be daunting, often limiting access to international opportunities. Southeast Asia has so much talent, yet we often get overlooked in the global music scene. It's tough to see so many talented artists struggle for recognition despite their hard work and creativity—we should all push for a more inclusive music community that celebrates diversity and lets our voices be heard on the global stage.
