- Since its first edition in 2003, Nuits sonores has been known as one of the great European meetings in the realm of innovative music and creativity. As it started as an electronic and independent music festival, Nuits Sonores keeps a pioneer spirit, putting together big names and discoveries but also local, French and international artists who represent all the diversity of the electronic and independent sounds, may it be hiphop, indie rock or pop... Nuits Sonores quickly opened up to digital cultures as a whole, graphic design, visual creation, stressing the idea that the festival should be a percolator of innovative culture from the past, present and future. As a multi disciplinary event known for the quality of its program, Nuits Sonores is also very concerned by its identity: it literally takes over a big city and uses 50 exclusive locations in it. Nuits Sonores offers the city to the population and its visitors. Temporary architecture and stage design are also in the centre of the project in order to add value to the city’s patrimony, may it be known or hidden. In the last ten years, through its ever changing circuit, Nuits Sonores invites the visitors to rediscover Lyon under a different light. From the Swimming pool on the Rhone river banks to the hanging gardens of Perrache, from the great Citroën building to the Charlemagne Ice skating ring, the Subsistances, a former convent of the 17th century, a light bulb factory built in 1905... We took it as a trademark to transform these locations into something different and turn the city into a giant playground. Each year, Nuits Sonores welcomes 138 000 festival goers, 250 artists and 1000 professionals. during 5 days and 5 nights.
