- Though the labels he releases on are somewhat unrelated, there is a certain continuity between the Too Polite EP on Local Action and Throwing Snow's last outing, Shadower, on Sneaker Social: both releases explore a hybrid of hardcore sounds from beats and bass to footwork and jungle via hollowed-garage and aqueous, Hotflush house. All in all it makes for a striking and lucid vision, one begun by A1 "Pyre" which is all about riding a hugely enlarged, extra loud, bounding bassline. Those big blank bass voids are then filled with scattered rim shots and highly processed vocals from Augustus Ghost which inject untold amounts of barely restrained euphoria.
"Equuleus" is the resulting comedown, the mournful and mopey lullaby that allows dopamine levels to be restored. Slo-mo footwork beats are the basis while the synth work harks of teary-eyed introspection, only for "Too Polite" to then get all… agro. More bounding bass notes kick things off, this time with the rolling drum, tom and snare work being most standout. As those protruding elements flutter like shutters in a storm, nasty, drilling, screw-face drops litter what sounds like a dark, torn up and turbo-charged jungle re-work. Bad ass stuff.
