- Although he's quietly been releasing a string of tracks since 2008, New Jersey's Joey Anderson received a major break when Levon Vincent played two of his tracks on this year's Fabric 63 mix. Perhaps as a result, Anderson seems to be upping his visibility. 3200 BC House Dancer, the inaugural release for the Freerotation-associated Until My Heart Stops, showcases the wonkily hypnotic deep house that is his forté.
The title track makes good on its future-primitive premise, as its base of liquid zaps is given an earthy twist via tripping congas, claves and clips of dreamlike laughter. "Join Her," meanwhile, is more atmospheric, matching a creak that reminds of a truck backing up and an upfront, pitch-stretched rimshot with dense, pillowy chords. As it progresses it sponges up all manner of detritus, but somehow concludes far more lush than when it began. Like many of his contemporaries in the New York metro area, Anderson's style is about exploiting the most abstract corners of deep house. In spite of its title, 3200 BC House Dancer sounds about as forward-thinking as the genre gets.
